With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
Hearing The Voice of God
There are many voices out there – the devil, the world, our imaginations, other people, and God just to name a few.
Millions of people want to know “how to hear the voice of God”. A good thing for us is that the bible has clear guidelines to help us in hearing God’s voice. It is very risky to hear just one voice and charge out on that voice alone. There have been many times and many people who have indeed heard the voice, only to be deceived to find out that it was not the voice of God.
A person I know did that very thing. He had a calling on his life and he thought he heard God’s voice say to him to go out and to visit many churches and that there would be opportunities given to him. So he went and spent several months on the road only to find that there were indeed no opportunities and the only thing he was getting was discouraged. He was so sure that he had heard from God that he would not listen to the counsel of others who was telling him to wait and to let God confirm indeed that he was to go.
We need to be alert in ourselves to wait upon God and not just act on the first thing we hear. Waiting on God and praying through what we hear will ensure that we do the right thing and the thing that God is calling us to do, and that will always be confirmed by the Holy Spirit.
The bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:14, “the man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
…It was “not flesh and blood” [that is man or man’s intellect] but God who revealed to Peter that Jesus was the Christ” MT 16:17
…Philippians 2:13 – For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.
Ask yourself this question – does the voice you are hearing agree with God’s Word?
…and that still small voice within if it is truly “wisdom that is from above {will be} pure…peaceable, gentle…God’s voice is gracious, merciful, peaceable. I the voice you are hearing is unlike that, you have every reason to be very wary of that voice.
SO, was that the Voice of God?
1. Is it confirmed by the multitude of counselors?
2. Is it spiritually, not carnally discerned?
3. Is your mind renewed? Or are you judging by the world’s standards?
4. How is your relationship with the Lord? Are you delighting in Him?
5. Does the voice agree with the Word of God?
6. Is there Holy-Spirit witness in your spirit?
7. Are you open to having others judge the validity of the voice?
8. Does it bring confusion or abiding peace?
